Profhilo is an innovative skin remodelling treatment that works to restore skin laxity and texture by stimulating collagen and elastin production to unearth a naturally refreshed and youthful glow. It is highly accomplished in treating not only the face, but also the neck, décolletage, hands and even the arms, knees and abdomen where skin lacks firmness.

As the regeneration of collagen slows as we age, the skin begins to languish showing visible signs of ageing such as; sagging, dehydration, fine lines and wrinkles or a dull complexion.

Profhilo’s high concentration of hyaluronic acid activates the generation of collagen within the skin and its surrounding structures to plump, soften, smooth and hydrate with skin appearing more supple, taught, firm and healthy. The unique make-up of Profhilo means that it gradually disperses within the skin and works over time, as opposed dermal fillers whereby they add volume to a specific area and stay put. And so Profhilo is often preferable to largely rejuvenate, to target overall skin health and to reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Profhilo entails a number of small injections around the treatment area and continues to work over a number of weeks. A subsequent treatment at around 4 weeks is required to complete the course in order for its results to work effectively. Your SAS Aesthetics doctor may advise further treatments if required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a unique Hyaluronic acid based product which combines H-HA and L-HA to build and stimulate production of 4 different types of collagen in the skin. As a result the skin will become more hydrated and lifted.

I’ve never had it before. How many treatments will I need?

To achieve the best results, it’s recommended that Profhilo is injected in specific points of the face over two sessions with 4 week intervals.

What is the maintenance and long term keep up like?

The initial results can last up to 6 months after which maintenance sessions maybe recommended according to your specific skin type and results.

Why should I have Profhilo and not Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers add volume to the face. For those who want to target the molecular loss of collagen that results in skin sagging without having to add unnecessary volume. Profhilo is highly recommended.

Is the treatment painful?

The skin will be numbed with topical anaesthesia for 20-15 minutes after which you should not experience any pain.

When should I start thinking about having Profhilo?

After 30, women start to lose significant amounts of collagen. Using injectable HA like profhilo will help to restore some of these losses. This treatment will not only treat skin drooping and sagging in women over 45 but will also work very effectively in preventing this in women who are 30-45.

Where can Profhilo be used?

Profhilo is injected into the skin in five key areas which include:

  • the tops of cheeks
  • sides of the face
  • lines around the mouth (marionette lines)
  • nasolabial folds
  • laughter lines

It can also be used to improve the appearance of the skin around the neck, chest and décolletage.

What are the side effects?

Dermal fillers / hyaluronic acid injections are a natural occurring substance and are therefore one of the safest injections with minor side effects such as swelling and bruising.

What should I avoid before and after the treatment?

We often discourage consumption of alcohol 12 hours before and after your treatment. Smoking should be avoided 6 hours before and after your treatment. Both these factors affect the likelihood of you bruising.

Other things to avoid are hot showers, saunas as well as exercise for 24 hours and avoid sunbathing or sunbeds for up to 7 days

Are there any contra-indications?

Yes, the absolute contra-indications are pregnancy, breast feeding. Relative contra-indications are the use of blood thinning medications (please discuss this with your doctor during your consultation).

How is Profhilo different from other hyaluronic acid treatments?

Profhilo is not a dermal filler but a bioremodelling treatment. It has a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid and is specifically designed to improve skin laxity and stimulate collagen, elastin, and adipocytes (fat cells), rejuvenating the skin from within.

Is there a risk of lumps or bumps after the Profhilo treatment?

Due to its unique consistency and dispersion ability, Profhilo distributes smoothly and evenly in the treatment area, reducing the risk of lumps or bumps. However, minor bumps may appear immediately post-treatment, which should resolve in a few hours to a couple of days.

How soon can I see results from Profhilo?

Some patients notice improved hydration and skin quality within days, but significant results, such as skin lifting and firming, typically start to become visible after 3-4 weeks.

Can I combine Profhilo with other treatments?

Yes, Profhilo can be combined with other treatments like Botox and fillers, but its essential to discuss the sequence and timing with your practitioner to achieve optimal results.

Is Profhilo safe for all skin types?

Profhilo is generally safe for most skin types since hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in our skin. However, a thorough consultation with a practitioner is essential to determine if youre an appropriate candidate.

How long should I wait between Profhilo and other facial treatments?

Its advisable to wait at least 2 weeks before or after receiving other facial treatments. This helps in minimising potential complications and maximising the effectiveness of each treatment.

What happens if I miss my second session after 4 weeks?

The second session of Profhilo is crucial for achieving optimal results. If you miss it, its best to reschedule as soon as possible. Delaying the second session might not give the desired outcomes.

Can Profhilo help with acne scars?

While Profhilos primary function is skin hydration and elasticity, the boost in collagen production may improve the appearance of certain types of acne scars. Its not a primary treatment for scars but can offer ancillary benefits.

What if I’m allergic to hyaluronic acid?

If you have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or have had reactions to facial treatments in the past, its essential to discuss this with your practitioner during the consultation.

Do I need to follow any special skincare regimen post-treatment?

No specific skincare regimen is required post-treatment. However, keeping the skin clean and moisturised and avoiding direct sunlight will promote healing and enhance results.
