Anti-Wrinkle Injections are a remarkably effective treatment in both treating and preventing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, working to reveal a smooth and more taught appearance to the face. The treatment is made up of a number of very small injections administered with absolute precision and an ultra-fine needle.

The injections contain a substance called Toxin A – a protein which works by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. This in turn stops the muscle from contracting. When injected in small doses, the Toxin A will cause the muscle to relax: as a result, the overlying skin becomes smoother and fine lines and wrinkles will soften or disappear completely.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections uncover a youthful and refreshed look by eliminating expression lines or wrinkles that intensify over time as we age, such as frown lines, forehead lines, bunny lines and crow’s feet.

Appropriate doses as advised by your SAS Aesthetics doctor will not restrict expressive movement, but subtly enhance your appearance for a natural look.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Toxin A is a protein which works by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. This in turn stops the muscle from contracting. When injected in small doses, the Toxin A will cause the muscle to relax: as a result the overlying skin becomes smoother and fine lines and wrinkles will disappear.

How long does it take to work?

The results appear gradually and often take 3-14 days to reach the final effect.

How long does it last?

Each person is different but the results from Botulinum Toxin A injection typically last between 3-6 months.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment is relatively pain free and requires no anaesthesia.

What are the side effects?

The benefit of anti-wrinkle injection is that they are temporary and wear off over time making them ideal for clients who want a more natural result. The most common side effects however are bruising and swelling which often resolve over a period of a few days.

What should I avoid before and after the treatment?

We often discourage consumption of alcohol 12 hours before and after your treatment. Smoking should be avoided 6 hours before and after your treatment. Both these factors affect the likelihood of you bruising. Other things to avoid are hot showers, saunas as well as exercise for 24 hours and avoid sunbathing or sunbeds for up to 7 days.

Does Toxin A make my wrinkles worse?

No – over time as the muscle relaxes and the acetylcholine receptors become less active you will need less injections with longer periods between each treatment.

Do I receive a top up after my treatment?

Yes, you are eligible for a top up 2-3 weeks after your treatment. However, we cannot offer this service outside of this time period.

Are there any contra-indications?

Yes – the absolute contra-indications are pregnancy, breastfeeding and more rarely medical conditions such as myasthenia Gravis. Relative contra-indications are the use of blood thinning medications (please discuss this with your doctor during your consultation).

What is preventative anti-wrinkle treatment and what is a good age to start this?

For clients between the age of 26-35 years we recommend preventative botulinum toxin which will slow the signs of aging as the skin starts to lose collagen with time. An age appropriate dose of toxin is injected in the areas you want to address and over time a natural result will prevent your skin from developing fine lines and wrinkles.

Do you offer Toxin injections for the arm pits to stop sweating?

Yes, we do – it’s the only non-surgical treatment proven to work.
